Resolutions

Every year, I make the same new year’s resolution. It’s pretty simple. I will try to be a better person this year than I was year. I don’t define goals. I don’t give my limits or benchmarks. I’m not trying to avoid failure. I’m trying to ensure success.
As we approach that point when a lot of people have abandoned their resolutions, I am giving myself a progress check.
I’m a pretty lazy person so I try to move a little more than I did the previous year.
I can be self-centered. It’s not that I don’t care about others, I just tend to retreat into my own head. I try to make a better effort to stay in touch with others. See how they are doing. Offer assistance if I can. Offer entertainment, because who can’t use one more smile in their day?
I try to cook more. Back to that lazy bit. Sometimes, partially because I live alone, I don’t put a lot of effort into food. Canned goods and frozen foods start to make up a lot of my diet.
If you’ve seen my Insta, you know I lack confidence in the kitchen so I try to build some by pushing myself to cook more and try new things.
And probably the hardest thing I try to do is believe in myself more. I’ve allowed life to beat me down. Make me feel like every decision I’ve ever made was wrong. I’m trying to push this notion aside. Accept that just because things didn’t turn out how I’d hoped or planned, didn’t mean it was wrong to try.
Anyway, those are the basics.
And this year, I think I’m doing pretty good.
